SS104 Learn to Solder

In this entry-level class, we learn the basics of soldering electronic components and soldering safety and techniques. Soldering involves melting a material called solder onto a circuit to form a bond that electricity can flow through. It can also act like metal glue to hold things in place. We are learning to solder in this introductory class to connect a battery and circuit to light an LED on a badge that you keep to show and tell.

EL101 Basic Electronics

In this first-level class, you will learn about voltage, current, and resistance as well as electrical components. This guided tour will teach you what’s inside modern consumer electronics, basic vocabulary, and how to describe circuits in easy schematics that you will draw. The focus is on orientation and navigation around electronics components.

EL201 Electronics Lab 1

In this first-level lab, you will learn about voltage, current, and resistance as well as electrical circuits. You’ll build simple circuits on a breadboard and learn to solder on an electronic printed circuit board assembly as well as basic solder crimp connections. This class also covers de-soldering methods. Learn to measure AC and DC voltages, currents, resistance, and other critical circuit parameters. You will also learn to set up and use DC power supplies with current limiting capability.

With the successful completion of this class, you can use the tools and resources in the Electronics Shop whenever you work at OSML as a member.
